PLAY FULL BODY workshop
The workshop is designed to be a playful physical journey but focused on mental challenges and the explicit goal of creativity. We will try to change the prism by searching for different ways of looking at movement and its qualities. Trying to create something that is not too new or too familiar, but something in between.
Guided improvisations and specific technical exercises will be the starting point of our work, mainly in pairs and groups. Participants will play with their vocabulary within defined but changing contexts to experiment and observe specific bodily mechanisms and mental processes that take place when we dance. Opening the doors of perception, we will search for those creative impulses that, once released, offer opportunities for new achievements—both technical and performative.
As a teacher and an artist, I am committed to sharing thoughts, questions, tips, and accumulated experiences that inspire and encourage others – hopefully enhancing a collective, intellectual curiosity. Through my years of teaching, I have learned to seek out a balance between goals relating to technical mastery and the individual’s abilities to make their own choices, reflect deeply, discover anew, develop personae, and encounter imaginary universes. Teaching requires a dynamic interaction between what happens inside the teacher’s mind and what happens with the group in the room. The act of teaching and my professional artistic practice have long been interconnected: they are in constant relationship and evolve together.

Laura Aris Alvarez
Laura is a performer, choreographer and recognised international dance teacher. Since 2009, she has been working as a freelance artist, developing her creative practices and collaborating with other artists. Laura Aris has developed a rich body of works, leading commissioned projects, creating several solos and many collaborative performances. She has combined her artistic practice with recognised pedagogical work in the international contemporary dance field.
Former dancer at Lanònima Imperial /Juan Carlos García and the artist colective General Electrica d’Espectacles in Spain (1996-1999). Former dancer of the Belgium company Ultima Vez, directed by Wim Vandekeybus (1999-2008).
Over the past few years, she has assisted Wim Vandekeybus for several shows of Ultima Vez She has also been the choreographer’s assistant and movement coach of several performances directed by Ivo Van Hove: Salome at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet Amsterdam in 2017, Elektra/Orestes at la Comedie Francaise in Paris in 2019, and Age of Rage for I.T.A. International Theatre Amsterdam in 2021.
