Embodiment

In this workshop we will take time to experience the movements we are engaged in. Starting with a Gaga class to connect to our sensations, opening our body and mind to a wider range of physical possibilities. Encouraging instinctive movement – while noticing physical habits. Emphasising quality and texture to create an opportunity of inspiring the body into new ways of moving.
Through further improvisation tasks and some set material we will play with different possibilities of interpretation of movement. Noticing how timings, settings, directions, and proportions can influence how a person is present in the space. Utilizing the many methods and influences that Chisato has gained over the years working with various Artists, we will look for authentic moments of embodiment that highlight our ability to be immersed in movement.

Chisato Ohno

Professional dancer and teacher Chisato Ohno graduated from Central School of Ballet and danced with Netherlands Dans Theater 2, Batsheva Dance Company and Karas of Saburo Teshigawara. Working with choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Johan Inger, Paul Lightfoot, Gideon Obarzanek, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek and Sharon Eyal. She is a certified Gaga teacher and has been teaching companies and schools in the UK and Internationally since 2005. Chisato is a member of faculty at the London Contemporary Dance School, and joined the faculty at Rambert School in September 2020.
